The Alex Mullin on team on 10 points is in the top spot in the Indoor Summer Triples League table with Peter Collins on 7 points in second place. Third and Fourth places are currently being held by Norman Anderson and John Painter respectively and both also on 7 points.
John Painter’s rink certainly didn’t have it all their own way when they faced a match against Norman Anderson’s squad in a battle that finished up an extremely close encounter. The match commenced with the Painter trio of Mal Torn, Alan Rymer and John Hopkinson shooting straight out of their starting blocks to take an early lead of 9 to 0 shots.
As this encounter continued both rinks produced some excellent bowls but as the match reached the halfway stage the Anderson rink had managed to reduce the Painter squad’s lead down to 9 to 5 shots and then down to 9 to 7 shots. The Painter rink managed to settle themselves down and increased their lead to 11 to 7 shots.
However again the Anderson trio came back at their opponents gradually hauling themselves back to not only level the match but take the lead at 12 to 11 shots with just two ends to play. With some quality play the Anderson squad won the first of these final ends scoring a single shot that increased their lead to 13 to 11 shots.
The final end proved to be a excellently fought end with both rinks producing some quality bowls but it was the Painter trio that secured this final end and scored 2 shots to finish the match with an honourable draw of 13 shots each after an interesting and highly competitive battle.

In the Australian Pairs League Alex Mullin’s squad on 4 points heads the league table with two wins from two matches closely followed by the pairings of Joan Bolton also on 4 points and a large group of teams all following closely on 2 points.
An interesting match took place between the teams of Jim and Margaret Sugden versus Dave Saxby and Mike Parsons that finished with a single shot victory for one pair.
The match commenced with the Sugden pair settling straight away and taking an early lead of 3 to 1 shots. Playing some awesome bowls the Saxby pair fought back to take the lead by 7 to 3 shots as the halfway stage of the match was reached. Then back came the Sugden pairing playing some excellent bowls and although they were up against a pair in excellent form they managed to reduce their opponent’s lead to 9 to 7 shots.
As the game progressed on into the later stages of the encounter the Sugden duo maintained their outstanding form in the match and eased their way back into the lead by 10 to 9 shots. This pattern of play by both rinks continued with the Saxby pair retaking the lead by 12 to 10 shots with just one end left to play in the match.
The final end produced some competitive play from both pairs but again it was the Sugden pair that eventually came out on top winning the final end. Although they had won this last end they only managed to score a single shot leaving the Saxby/Parsons duo to secure the victory by just 12 to 11 shots.
